Ant Infestation
An ant infestation can be a real nuisance. In the summer, they are one of the top reasons that people seek out pest control in London. There are two types of ants that commonly cause problems and require pest removal in the capital; garden ants and pharaoh’s ants.
Garden ants are about 3-4mm long. Garden ant infestations are particularly common during the summer because this is the only point at which queens and males are produced wings, allowing them to mate. It’s for that reason that ant pest control in London is most needed during the hottest months. A garden ant infestation may form in your home as they venture indoors in search of food. A course of pest removal generally requires at least 2 treatments in order to control a garden ant infestation. This is because young ants can hatch after the first pest removal treatment, so a second is required in order to remove any survivors before they reproduce.
Pest control in London can also often involve the removal of pharaoh’s ants. As they originate from North Africa, the ants prefer a warmer environment – which they too often find inside a nice warm house. Pharaoh’s ants are smaller than garden ants (only about 2mm long), but harder for pest removal experts to clear. This is because spraying with conventional pesticides can exacerbate a pharaoh’s ant infestation, as they will split up and create new colonies if attacked. There is therefore the potential that, rather than removing one ant infestation, you end up with a brand new ant infestation in every room of your house! Unlike garden ants, they also have the ability to create a new queen if they cannot return to their original nest. For that reason, pharaoh’s ants generally require at least 3 treatments by a pest removal expert in order to clear, as baiting with an insect growth regulator is necessary to prevent the ants from reproducing.
